The pet industry is getting reformed in India and it is also growing at a faster pace in the country. This could be further explained with the accomplishment of the Indian Pet Industry Association (IPIA) in the year 2009 to give strength and voice to the Indian pet industries on the whole.

The dog food forms the major share of the pet industry market in the country around 80%, followed by the shares of the cats and other pet animals in the country. Most of the best brands in the pets food industry is imported form the other international countries. This has made many manufacturers in the country to realize the potential of the pets food market and hence, many have come forward to establish manufacturing units for providing the pets food in the country. The major emphasis is on the dog food, as most of the people in India consider dogs to be a friendly animal and many are adopting and growing dogs as their children. But, most of the people in India do not consider adopting a cat to be auspicious, hence the dog adoption is booming and the dog food industry is also getting renovated, in order to meet the growing needs of the people. Further, the ambience, and the climatic conditions in the country do support the adoption of dog in more better way. When it is coming to pets, some also growing love birds at home, and some are growing fish at home, but the percentage is very less, when compared to dogs.

Recently, the dog shows have started to gain momentum in the country. Such shows varies in numerous type, thereby providing variety in the shows, such as fashion shows, running races of dogs, dog championships, shows selecting the best dog of the year, and shows selecting the worst dog of the year, etc… Such shows are making headlines in the country recently, similar to what is happening in the developed countries like America, UK, and Australia, etc… This has also made further enhancements in the veterinary hospitals and their associations. The ‘Veterinary Council of India’ has also come up with huge enhancements in order to improve the veterinary medicine in the country. Such growing trends of dog shows and other related shows have turned up the volume towards the commercial activity and also towards the growth of the veterinary medical field in the country. The pet industry in India is estimated with an earning potential of around Rs. 350 crore, out of which Rs. 250 crore is provided by the pet food industry and the remaining are contributed from grooming the pets and growth of the pet industry sector. The pet food industry is seeing a huge renovations, which is expected to grow at a rate of 10-15%, especially, providing a variety of dog food in the market. The growth of pet salons and pet grooming clinics are yet to strike a huge development in the country.
